Frequently asked questions about used threading machines

What is the difference between a tapping machine and a die head threading machine?
A tapping machine cuts internal threads in a drilled hole using a tap, usually with a reversing or torque limiting head to protect the tool. A die head threading machine cuts external threads on bar, tube or pipe, and the head opens automatically at the end of the thread so the part does not have to be unwound. If you are threading holes you need the first; if you are threading rod or pipe, the second.

What capacity should I check on a used threading machine?
Look at the maximum thread diameter in steel, the pitch range and thread standards it covers, the spindle speeds available and whether the spindle is bored through for long bar. Confirm which taps, die heads and chasers are included, because tooling often costs more than the machine. We currently source this type of machine to order: send us the thread size, the standard and the material.
